The Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) Programs take a science-based approach toward the fields of health, exercise science, human performance and sports medicine.

Our programs are recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Education Recognition Program (ERP) which recognizes regionally accredited academic institutions for their educational programs that have met, and continue to meet, education guidelines recommended by the NSCA. We are an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise is Medicine recognized program for our efforts in promoting health and wellness within the community.

The degrees promote scholarly inquiry and cultivates ‘research-savvy practitioners’. A research-savvy practitioner is a professional who can recognize and use the latest cutting-edge knowledge when working with clients, patients, and community.

The Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP) program is closely affiliated with the Sports Medicine Assessment, Research, and Testing (SMART) Laboratories.

The SMART Laboratories are three state-of-the art facilities where faculty and students from the Exercise, Fitness, and Health Promotion (EFHP), Athletic Training Education (ATEP), and Kinesiology (KINE) Programs conduct evidence-based research in the areas of injury prevention, lower extremity neuromechanical assessment, traumatic brain injury (TBI) concussions, youth sport, and sports performance. The SMART Laboratories are located both on the Prince William and Fairfax campuses.

SMART Lab faculty and EFHP students conduct evidence-based research in the areas of injury prevention and human performance.
